  • Culturally Responsive School Social work practice

    Researcher: Sarah McGreer, PhD student in Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary

    About the Study: This study explores how school social workers in Alberta support Black students in junior high and high school through culturally responsive practices. It aims to better understand the successes, challenges, and systemic barriers faced by school social workers in educational settings. Participants will share their professional experiences through two confidential interviews (each 60–90 minutes, online or in-person), with the opportunity to review and refine their contributions. Findings will help inform improvements to social work training, school policy, and student support initiatives.

    Respondents: You are eligible if you:
    1. Are a licensed school social worker currently practicing in Alberta.
    2. Have experience supporting Black students in K–12 schools.
    3. Are willing to participate in two interviews.
    4. Are comfortable reflecting on your professional experiences.

  • Access to health services and supports for Black preterm babies in the community

    Researcher: Mary Olukotun, PhD Candidate, Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta

    About the Study: There is little research exploring the health of Black preterm infants as it relates to health service access in Canada. This study seeks to understand how Black families experience and navigate access to services and supports for their preterm infants through interviews with families and their support persons, and social workers who currently work in a NICU.

    Eligible social workers are invited to participate in an interview (45 to 60 minutes) about the role of social workers in the NICU, discharge planning for families with preterm infants, and their perspectives on community care and access to services for such families.

    Respondents: Eligibility criteria:
    1. Currently hold a role as a social worker in a NICU in Edmonton or Calgary
    2. Comfortable completing an interview in English

    Incentives: An honorarium of $25 will be provided as a token of appreciation.

  • Research Study on Indigenous Social Workers Using Medicinal Plants:

    Researcher: Iris Plain Eagle, Doctor of Social Work Student, MSW, RSW, (Alberta Canada)

    About the Study: This is a new study about traditional knowledge that could help Indigenous social workers practicing in the Treaty 7 region better understand experiences of using medicinal plants to address First Nation, Metis, or Inuit client trauma related to colonization.

    For this study, you are invited to describe your practice experiences of using medicinal plants to address Indigenous client trauma related to colonization in the context of challenges and opportunities.

    Respondents must be: Indigenous Social workers, Registered, Providing services within the Treaty 7 region.

  • Factors Influencing Mental Health Professionals’ Case Conceptualization and Treatment Planning Processes for Psychotherapy.

    Researcher: Vanessa Tombolini, Doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology program at Adler University (Vancouver Campus).

    About the Study: The study will examine mental health clinicians’ attitudes, beliefs and knowledge about case conceptualization and treatment planning, to contribute to research in case conceptualization and treatment planning.

    Respondents: Individuals are eligible to participate if they meet the following requirements: Currently live in Canada, Currently working as a licensed mental health professional in Canada (Registered or Chartered Psychologist, Registered Clinical Counsellor, Canadian Certified Counsellor, Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Counselling Therapist, or other provincial equivalent, Registered Social Worker, Psychiatrist), Are comfortable reading and writing in English, Have previously or currently provide psychotherapy services for adult clients with anxiety, Have access to the internet to complete the survey

  • Research Study on School Social Workers & Autistic Students

    Researcher: Alisha Stubbs, MSW, PhD Candidate - Faculty of Social Work, Wilfrid Laurier University.

    About the Study: This study explores the competencies required for school social workers to effectively meet the non-academic needs of autistic students and ultimately enhance students’ well-being and academic success.

    What’s Involved in This Study?
    This research consists of two parts, and you are invited to participate in Part Two: This part involves a national survey designed to assess the competencies that school social workers currently possess and to explore factors influencing these competencies, such as specialized autism training and administrative support.

    Respondents: Social worker in Canada, or have been one within the last 5 years, Interested in helping identify the training needs of school social workers in working with autistic students.

  • Autistic Human Services Worker Survey. A Study to Understand Workplace Inclusion

    Researcher: Sarah Southey, PhD Candidate - Wilfrid Laurier University (Ontario)

    About the study: This study seeks to understand the barriers and facilitators of workplace inclusion and wellbeing for autistic human services workers in Canada and the United States. It is the first large-scale study to examine these topics, thus the results will offer new knowledge and most importantly inform efforts to promote the inclusion of autistic human services workers.

    Respondents: Any autistic identifying person currently working in helping professions/human services should be eligible.

    This online survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete

    Incentives: Eligible participants will receive a $10 gift card.

  • Market Research - Understanding the Daily Challenges and Needs of Social Workers in the Field

    Researchers: Eniela Vela and Ornela Bregu, co-founders of Social Safe, a safety and productivity platform for social workers. T, V1 Studio at District3 at Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec

    About the Study: The study involves qualitative interviews and surveys with practicing social workers to better understand their daily experiences, pain points, safety concerns, and administrative burdens during in-person fieldwork. The insights gathered will directly shape the development of user-centered technologies designed to improve their work environment and efficiency.

    Respondents: Professionals currently working in social work or related fields. This includes: Child protection workers, Youth protection workers, Mental health social workers, Community support workers, Case managers, Crisis intervention workers.

    Region: Canada, with a focus on Quebec and Ontario. Age Group: Adults aged 21–65. Experience Level: 1+ year of field experience preferred.
