Membership Renewal

SWAA membership renewal is done through your Member Portal.

Voting members need to:

  1. Live, work or study in Alberta, and

  2. Be registered with ACSW, or have completed a social work education from an accredited social work program, or be currently enrolled as a social work student in an accredited social work program.

To renew, you must log in to your existing Member Portal account.

Do not click the membership options listed on the website under Join SWAA when you are trying to renew. Those options are for new memberships only and will create a new profile with a new Membership ID. New profiles cannot be linked to your existing account.

If you can’t remember your password, click Forgot Password on the Member Portal login page to reset it. Do not create a new account


Username/User Email

Please log in using the same email address already associated with your membership. Renewing with a different/new address will create a new profile which won’t be linked to your old profile.

You can change your email address once you are logged in

Student members must register and renew using their institution’s email address.

If you’re not sure which email is on your account, contact SWAA, and we can help.


RSW Number

If you are an RSW, please add your RSW number when renewing.


Membership Categories

Membership Category Change

  • Category changes, for example, from Student to Employed, must be updated on your account before renewal.

  • If you need to have your category updated, please contact SWAA using the inquiry form on the member portal

  • Government

    If the majority of your employment is with government, at any level, including but not limited to Alberta Health Services (AHS), Covenant Health, Primary Care Networks (PCNs), Public schools (K–12), and Public colleges/universities, this is your membership category.

    Your membership fee is $250 per year.

  • Private Practice

    If you have a private practice and it represents the majority of your work, select this category. If you have other employment, and most of your work is in that role, but you also have a private practice, select the category that reflects your primary employment. You can then contact SWAA if you wish to be listed in the private practice directory.

    Your membership fee is $250/year.

  • For Profit

    If the majority of your work is in the private sector as an employee, including, but is not limited to, private mental health or wellness clinics, insurance companies (case management or disability support), private elder care or supportive living organizations, private schools (K–12), private post-secondary, and research.

    Your membership fee is $250/year

  • Non-Profit

    If the majority of your employment is with a nonprofit, this is your membership category. This includes roles in charities, not-for-profit agencies, community organizations.

    Your membership fee is $200 per year.

  • Part Time Employment and/Retired

    If you are working part time, if you are no longer working due to retirement, or you are retired but working part-time, this is your membership category.

    Your membership fee is $125 per year.

  • Unemployed/ On Leave

    If, at the time of purchasing/renewing your membership, you are unemployed (including parental leave, stress leave, compassionate care leave, etc.), this is your membership category.

    Your membership fee is $125 per year.

  • Student

    If you are currently studying in an accredited social work program, this is your membership category.

    Your membership fee is $55 per year.

Membership purchases are final and non-refundable.

Your SWAA membership grants you access to CASW Membership.
