ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS - SWAA MENTORSHIP COMMUNITY
(Closes September 26, 2025). |
The Social Workers Association of Alberta (SWAA) is proud to introduce the Mentorship Community, a province-wide initiative designed to foster connection, growth, and support within the social work profession.
Whether you are an experienced practitioner or a student/new graduate, the Mentorship Community provides a supportive and meaningful space to learn from one another, share knowledge, and build confidence in your professional journey. |
Benefits of Joining the Mentorship Community |
Mentors: By joining as a mentor, you are contributing to the development of the next generation of Alberta’s social workers. This is an opportunity to reflect on your own practice, enhance leadership skills, and give back to the profession in a way that is relational and grounded in mutual respect.
Mentees: As a mentee, you will gain insight from experienced social workers who understand the complexities of the field. Whether you're seeking guidance on navigating ethical dilemmas, building professional identity, or managing the transition from student to practitioner, this is a space where your voice is welcomed and supported.
Together, We Can:
Build supportive, reciprocal relationships with peers and professionals
Strengthen your confidence, competence, and ethical practice.
Exchange knowledge and experiences across practice areas and regions
Reduce professional isolation, especially for rural or independent practitioners
Contribute to a culture of collective learning, support and growth. Engage in meaningful conversations about career development, boundaries, and sector challenges. |
The Road Ahead:
SWAA is committed to building a mentorship community that reflects the realities and values of Alberta’s diverse social work community. This means fostering meaningful connections, providing peer support, and promoting leadership development, while also creating space for individual and professional reflection throughout one’s social work journey. As the Mentorship Community evolves, we will continue to offer tools, learning opportunities, and networking to strengthen the experience for both mentors and mentees.
Mentorship is not Supervision:
SWAA Mentorship Community is not about supervision. Mentors are not expected to, and should not, provide clinical advice, direct practice guidance, case management, or act in a supervisory capacity within the context of employment. |
Ready to Join?
Participation is voluntary and open to current SWAA members. We also welcome Retired social workers and Social work students who do not have an active SWAA membership. Matches will be made thoughtfully based on availability, areas of interest, and capacity. Complete the brief application form to help us understand your background, preferences, and goals.
